Youth Mental Health First Aid Training Course to Be Offered

SOUTHBURY - The nationally recognized Youth Mental Health First Aid training certification program will be offered from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 21 and Wednesday, March 22 at the Jewish Federation of Western Connecticut, 444 Main St. North.

There is no charge for this program and the public is invited to participate.

Youth Mental Health First Aid is an eight-hour certification course that introduces participants to the unique risk factors and warning signs of mental health problems in adolescents, builds an understanding of the importance of early intervention and teaches how to help an adolescent in crisis or experiencing a mental health or substance use challenge.

Some of the topics covered include forming an action plan to gain confidence reaching out to youth facing mental health challenges/crises, connecting youth to appropriate professional, peer and self-help and reducing stigma surrounding suicide and mental health topics.

Space is limited to 25 and registration is required.
